Pubs and restaurants must adhere to the requirements under the 2005 Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order by cleaning in accordance with the industry’s leading guidance document, TR/19 section 7. If this ductwork has not been cleaned properly, and it cannot be proved that all grease deposits have been completely removed as prescribed by law at the intervals defined in TR/19, a corporate manslaughter charge can result if fire breaks out. Furthermore, if cleaning has not been carried out in accordance to Fire Safety Regulations and Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) regulations, it may invalidate the buildings insurance and result in rejected insurance claims in the event of fire.
